10Flash

I’ve published and edited 10Flash Quarterly since July 2009.  Jude-Marie Green is my co-editor.  Every quarter — January, April, July and October — we present ten speculative flash fiction stories — fantasy, horror, science fiction, suspense or slipstream — between 800 and 1,000 words long and written to a common theme.

We’re open to new ideas and reinterpretations of genre — as long as your work is well written.

We want to experience frisson. We look for stories that have been crafted with care and an eye for detail, that offer characters and a plot free from cliché that proceed to a conclusion that is both emotionally and intellectually satisfying.

Most of all, we are looking for stories that are fun to read.

That’s why we were drawn to genre fiction as young readers. We suspect that is true of all of us who still read such stories. If we could, we would revive the old pulp magazines and be proud to do so.

If you like to read fiction, check us out.

  1. Hello KC: Like your Now Playing blog a lot. Mind if I list it on mine? We have some things in common… like age, maybe. I’m a retired consumer special interest/b-to-b magazine publisher (25 titles including Sew News, Crafts, Dog World, Shooting Times, Rotor & Wing, etc…PJS Publications bought by Primedia then on to others). Started in newspapers (writer) then mag ad sales, editing, writing, circulation, etc. before becoming boss before becoming expendable on third sale of company. Never a prison guard or bartender, but does root beer stand experience, shoe sales, sports writer count? Dumb jokes. got you there.

Take a look at my blog to see if you can relate to it. Bet you can.

I have a daughter in Seattle and three stories now banging around Every Day Fiction. Just started to write (or try) fiction after 30 years of writing a monthly magazine column. I started dumb crook stuff, stupid sounding lawsuits, etc. in 1965 but as a column feature. Wish I had followed up more broadly.

I’m now in NC, about 60 miles south of Raleigh on a nice lake. Started my blog just 2 1/2 mos ago and am having fun. Still have to learn a little more about including gadgets, other stories, etc.

Movies, Netflix. Yes. Next up is Grand Torino… that following Bolt… so you guess the genre.

Appreciate a listing on your blog if you feel a rookie is worth it.

    Best. Jerry.

      Hiya Jerry:

I’d be pleased to have you set up a link to Now Playing in Seattle at It’s Nuts Out There and I will reciprocate. I agree we have common interests; even if we didn’t we left-handed boomers have to stick together.

I’ll look for your stories at Every Day Fiction, too.

      K.C.
